Adobe Creative Suite Extension Builder is a set of tools, APIs and documentation that help you create extensions for Creative Suite applications and to support hosted services embedded within CS applications. Programs written in CSIDE can run in multiple Adobe Creative Suite desktop applications.
Adobe Creative Suite Extension Builder allows developers to use applications developed using the Adobe Flex framework as Adobe Creative Suite plug-ins. The runtime for the extension is built on the AIR platform, allowing you to make use of the AIR API that is available in the Flex framework. The development environment also provides ActionScript libraries that can be used to easily integrate the extension with the host application, for example, by providing a mechanism to access the scripting Document Object Model (DOM) of the host CS application.
Prior to the advent of CS Extension Builder, developing plug-ins for Creative Suite applications such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and more; was a tedious process which could take months. Now you get Creative Suite SDK with CS Extension builder using which Plug-ins for most of the creative suite applications can be developed using ActionScript and Flex. Advantage offered by using CS ActionScript wrapper libraries (CSAW) in the CS SDK are, increase of speed of development and create compelling user interface which was never possible using conventional C++ SDK's
