A workflow consists of a sequence of connected steps required for a completion of Job. Execution of each step is based on the result of the previous step. It could involve multiple people, multiple softwares, feedback's from customer and more. A workflow based on its nature can be complex, expensive, time consuming and error prone.
Over the past years, we at MetaDesign have developed expertise to automate workflows within publishing industries. While automating we ensure that the new workflow is not conflicting with the existing stuff is more efficient in terms of time and money and at the same time the accuracy is either improved or remains constant.
InDesign in particular is highly customizable and flexible. While automating workflows we heavily use its exposed scripting model and SDK to generate solutions.
Below are some of our case studies to help you gauge on our capabilities.
Case Studies
Automation of Personalized Books
Our customer had an existing workflow of creating books which involved a lot of manual steps, our job was to automate the whole cycle so that the customer gains on time and accuracy in its work.
In this project, a user of the software submits a set of photographs which then a designer sitting in the office merges with existing InDesign Template. The designer is responsible of choosing the right template, then making sure we has the right set of layers switched on and merge the pictures. On completion of merge he publish the InDesign document as a PDF for review.
We worked with our customer and automated this whole process to eliminate the requirement of Designer and have this whole process automated.
Automation of batch merge InDesign Document to produce brochures
In this project our customer has a set of InDesign Templates which are to be merged with Text and Pictures to create brochures. Existing workflow at client side involved a manual process where a Designer does this merge and makes sure the InDesign has the require fonts and more. On completion he generates a low res PDF for review. On approval a High Res PDF is generated and sent for Production.
We were assigned the job of automating the whole process. Our suggested automated workflow took a fraction of the amount of time it used to take and eliminated the need of having someone manually do the merge.
