How MetaDesign Solutions (MDS) established itself as an IT partner in the Education Sector

Established in 2016, Scorace provides innovative solutions in the e-learning sector leveraging cutting edge technology.

Scorace is an Intelligent Personal Tutor for students. It leverages Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to deliver personalized study courses, tests, and tutorials to students. Scorace is available as a mobile application on Android with a limited release available on Web Browsers.

Requirements

Scorace contacted MetaDesign Solutions to create an application to deliver learning which was both intuitive and feature-packed. The application, titled “Scorace”, was required to run on a wide range of devices spanning a sizeable spectrum of hardware capabilities. In addition to this, the application needed to be viable on low-speed bandwidth.

At the outset, Scorace was envisioned with having the following attributes

  • Integrated Chatbot
  • Question Bank
  • Chapter Summaries
  • Dashboard with baked-in analytics
  • Customized Daily Plan for individual users
  • Customized Tests

MDS Solution

The Scorace application was required to run on a wide range of devices with minimal barriers to entry to installation. MDS utilized their extensive development expertise to divide the Scorace application into multiple modules, with each module having the ability to call upon other modules when necessary.

  • Android

    MDS developed Scorace natively on Android by leveraging the full capabilities of the Android SDK. The application’s core logic is built on a Java base with XML being used for the UI and SQLite used for storage capabilities.

  • Web & Server-Side Development

    MDS fully utilized Angular, HTML, and CSS for Web Development and developed a fluid and intuitive user experience.

    Machine learning and Artificial Intelligence were leveraged to measure the student’ performance and assign relevant questions from the Question Bank as well as provide advanced analytics concerning the student’s performance.

    A modular structure was necessary considering the long-term ambitions for Scorace as further additions to the feature list were deemed fundamental.

Critical features (mentioned below) have been seamlessly integrated into the application

An ‘always available’ Chatbot which can guide the user should they have any query regarding the app or their study plan.

A Question bank which provides test questions relevant to the topics at hand in accordance with the user's progress.

c.)

An informative and intuitive Dashboard which provides updates and guidance to the user.

d.)

Achievement and Badges tied to a user’s progress.

Challenges

With Scorace being a comprehensive and Intelligent E-learning tool, It’s development posed several challenges.

Numerous UI elements required customization that was not easily available and needed to be created.

Special Characters for Math Elements which were unable to be displayed. This was rectified by referencing a customized Math engine.

There were no publicly available Analytics services which met the applications' requirements. We created a custom Analytics service using MongoDB which was used to provide the user with an analysis regarding their progress.

Business Impact

MetaDesign Solutions was successful in overcoming the challenges faced during development and in delivering a comprehensive, feature-packed, scalable and intuitive e-learning platform in Scorace. The application provides several tools to aid students in learning and presents relevant tests as well as a facility to upload their answers for grading. This interactive and personalized study tool has proved itself a boon for students across India.
